Dr. Vaughn's talk will help us identify common foot ulcerations/infections amenable to non-amputation interventions and identify and differentiate urgent vs non-urgent foot and ankle infections/ulcerations.

  • The value of a coach

7:00a | Complex Hernia Conference | via Teams

The MaineHealth Comprehensive Hernia Center presents the Complex Hernia Case Conference, a CME Program.  This is open to surgeons and interested parties across the system. The objectives of the conference are to present complex hernia cases, review data to evaluate opportunities for quality improvement projects to ensure excellent patient care and outcomes, create alignment within MaineHealth in the care for hernia patients and improve access to specialty level surgical care for patients throughout the Maine Health system. Each conference will include case discussions, data review and a short educational presentation relating to the care of hernia patients.

7:00a | Shock & Sepsis

October is upon and winter is coming. From the desk of the honorable Dr. Vernamonti:

For Monday Conference we will be talking about Shock and Sepsis. We will be filling out the infamous shock table with the swan values (medical students up/down arrows acceptable, residents get absolute values) and talking about basics of critical care management for each one. I anticipate this will take about 30 minutes, then we can talk about most recent surviving sepsis guidelines (2021). Please don't read all 90 pages, but Table 1 is helpful with the summary of recommendations. Also included Sepsis III for historical context, but don't read unless interested.
